MECHANISM of Robot
This is the easiest section of a robot. You just need to know the names of the parts purchase and fit them.
Wheels: There are different types of wheels available in market. To know more about it kindly go to this link.
Gears: Gears are the device which can convert RPM into power.
Slower the rpm higher the power and vice versa. Suppose you have a motor of 1200rpm and the max torque it can provide is 12N. In order to increase its power you need to decrease its rpm not by applying brakes but by using gears.                                  

Servos: servos are like hand of your robot. You can use these to run your robot, control your robot, lift something or pull something. goto this link

Motors: I think most you are familiar with motors, but in robotics most of the motors used are geared because they provide a greater power.

NOTE: if you are making any automated robots try to use smaller rpm motors (60-100rpm) because microcontrollers do not respond too fast.
